About A Light in the Fog
In this sumptuously visualized and wonderfully poetic movie, a woman Rana takes care of her aging father while waiting for her husband to return from the frontline. To pass the time she helps her father make charcoal and mend lanterns, a metaphorical search for a source of illumination in her life. On the day that Rahmat, a passing cyclist, gives Rana his bicycle light to mend, she starts to sense an end to the days of uncertainty and gloom, a silver lining waiting just around the corner. The film's elegant compositions and quietly powerful performances slowly envelop us in the widow's simple, poignant world. This exquisite debut recalls such masterpieces as Sohrab Sahless' 'Still Life'. An austere and mesmerizing triumph.
