Unsweet Memories - Khatereh Khoshboo Nist - خاطره خوشبو نیست

This incredibly candid short film focuses on the young Sharifeh, an illiterate child whose circumstances have forced her to take a position as a W.C. attendant. As director Azar Mehrabi asks her question after question, Sharifeh's smiling face belies a heartbreaking despair for the hopelessness of her situation. When Mehrabi offers her the chance to operate the camera herself however, Sharifeh's inquisitive spirit and intelligence shine through. By centering on the plight of one young girl, Mehrabi highlights concerning issues affecting contemporary Iran’s impoverished younger population.
