'The 17s' is a vibrant and edgy documentary film following the lives of four ebullient and endearing teenagers in contemporary Iran. We are introduced to theater lover Shayan, who lives with his uncle following his parents' divorce, Mehrnaz, a girl in his theater class, party animal Amir Reza, and the introspective Romina, whose mother is suffering from illness. During a year and under the supervision of the filmmakers, the teenagers film themselves and share with the camera and us a little bit of their lives. The result makes for mesmerizing, addictive viewing; the youngsters views on life and society are often insightful, and at times, painfully poignant. A must see.
