This bold piece of work, directed by master director Abbas Kiarostami, features close-ups of over one hundred renowned stage and screen actresses as they watch a theatrical interpretation of the twelfth century poem Khosrow and Shirin unfold on the screen. As the play progresses, we follow the astonishingly nuanced reactions of our audience. The film’s strength lies in its examination of female spectatorship, and how our facial expressions can convey emotional involvement in a story.
