A 40-year old man, Zeinal, who has been a POW for 20 years, is released and returns to his home town. He remembers how he helped fighting off the enemies in Khoramshahr and defending the city from heavy fire of the enemy at the beginning of the war. It was ... during that hard and critical time that Eskandar, along with some agents, claiming to have a secret mission, ask Zeinal to retrieve a safe full of secret documents which was about to be taken out of the country on a freight car. Zeinal and a few of his followers, get the safe and are about to give it to the leader of the group. As he is dead, Zeinal decides to take it to Ahvaz and give it to Jahan Ara. His conflict with Eskandar and the government agents become serious, but he manages to get the safe to a trailer and escape his pursuers at the last moments. The enemy attacks and Zeinal’s friend, Yahya, who was with him during all the stages, is killed and drowns with the safe. After he is released, Zeinal is considered a traitor and quarantined for some months. When he finally gets to his village, he realizes that everyone blames him of treason. Yahya’s wife, Salimeh, also holds him responsible for her husband’s death and is trying to take revenge by killing him. In order to prove his innocence, Zeinal goes to the military commander who was Jahan Ara’s assistant at the beginning of the war. He risks his own position but provides Zeinal with some equipment so that he can look for the safe. Zeinal finds the safe but he first takes Yahya’s remains to his wife. At this time, Eskandar reveals that the safe contains no secret documents but gold bars. Knowing that Eskandar has his eye on the gold, Zeinal takes the safe to the mine field. After a struggle and his nephew being killed, Zeinal is wounded by Eskandar. He leaves but the mines explode and the gold scatters in the desert. Salimeh takes Zeinal to the hospital.
