Shahryar Ahadi is the friend and manager of musician Shahin Najaf for whom he also directed his music videos. Both live in exile in Germany, a circumstance that crucially inspired Ahadi’s short film 'Bidari' (Awakening, 2010). The film depicts the inner personal struggle of an Iranian homeless man who lives in exile in Germany and it thereby pays homage to all refugees and migrants and their mental and physical homelessness.
