An internationally acclaimed filmmaker who was inspired by film from a young age. Born in 1980 in Tehran, she ( سمیرا مخملباف ) is the daughter of Mohsen Makhmalbaf. Her father inspired her passion for cinema. She pursued her interest by leaving school to join the Makhmalbaf Film House and remained there for many years. Her debut The Apple (1998) gained recognition that any young filmmaker would relish. Makmalbaf's second feature Blackboards (2000) won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Standing on her merits, Makhmalbaf is to deliver more great films in the years ahead.
