Paid for by parents and taught by women educated at Iran universities, the schools operate on a shoe-string budget, but the film explores how they offer a vital sense of hope and belonging to its pupils. Captain Nemat, their chief, tries to persuade the ship-owner and the official authorities not to get the ship back. On the other hand, he is selling the iron parts of the ship piece by piece. Yet how is Alireza to find a wife when he is enclosed within the prison walls? The task of finding a marriage partner falls to Alireza's mother, who is also in prison. Saffron is about that An Iranian saffron farmer chooses to continue with his plans of fertilizing his saffron crop, against all the odds. With the environmental risks and arid conditions, his treasured plants may wilt in the desert heat. Scenes of flowing water contrast with the apparently hostile and unforgiving land, as he optimistically battles through his trials. A charming but realistic portrait of the difficulties that come with the choice of an agricultural life in rural Iran.
