My Little Country is about that Abbas Mohammadi's documentary tells the story of self-funded schools set up for Afghani children who are forced to seek refuge in Iran. Paid for by parents and taught by women educated at Iran universities, the schools operate on a shoe-string budget, but the film explores how they offer a vital sense of hope and belonging to its pupils. Touching footage of lessons combine with interviews of children to bring a vivid insight into their plights, and the inspirational role the schools play in their lives. Scenes of flowing water contrast with the apparently hostile and unforgiving land, as he optimistically battles through his trials. A charming but realistic portrait of the difficulties that come with the choice of an agricultural life in rural Iran.
