Mohammad Khazaie began his career by script writing and directing in the theatre. He then joined the newspapers after studying Visual Arts. During the years 1997 to 1998 he directed the films "Praying Hands" and "The Song of Takestan" in which both drew a lot of attention to themselves in international film festivals. Khazaie was nominated for best film for the production of "Behind the Fog" in the Twenty Third Fajr Film Festival.

Behind the Curtain of Fog is about that Morteza is a boy who has recently lost his father and lives with his mother. He has hearing problems and uses hearing aids. When the new teacher arrives at their school, after a while, he mistakenly thinks the teacher is in love with his mother and the gossips add to his suspicion. These thoughts start to devour his mind and affect his life. That's when his mother tries to bring him back to light and teach him to see everything better . Picnic at Battlefield is about that Sohrab, the naïve young shepherd of their village, keeps asking his brother who is a commander in the army to enter the military .He ends to be the shepherd of the division. One day while Sohrab is herding the flock of sheep, ends up in the front line right when a fierce battle is going on between the two sides. While everyone is struggling to dodge the bullets and survive the battle, Sohrab and his sheep just cause mre trouble.Their main supply route gets blocked and their vehicles and supplies get destroyed one after the other. Sohrab now has no other choice but to leave the sheep. He then hops on a motorcycle and tries to save the soldiers.
