Iranian filmmaker Maryam Shahriar was born in Tehran in 1966. She has spent much time outside of Iran, studying filmmaking in California during the 1980s and later graduating in Italian Culture and History from the American University of Rome. She remained in Italy to work as an assistant and editor, also producing several short films.
